Upper Township Beaches

The Beach Patrol provides protection for the Upper Township beaches located at Strathmere and at Beesley's Point. The village of Strathmere is on the northern point of the island that it shares with Sea Isle City and Whale Beach. The town is 1-1/2 miles long and 2 blocks wide. A bridge across Corson's Inlet connects Strathmere to Ocean City to the North. Whale Beach, also part of Upper Township, lies immediately to the South and extends southward to the northern boundary of Sea Isle City. The guarded beaches lie adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean along the eastern edge of Strathmere, extending from the North at approximately Seacliff Ave and extending to just South of Prescott Road. The Beach Patrol headquarters is at Williams Ave and the Beach. ( SEE MAP ) A major beach replenishment project was completed in the fall of 2001, significantly widening the ocean beaches.  A one and one half mile stretch of unguarded beach (Whale Beach) lies between Strathmere and Sea Isle City, also open (and free) to the public. Immediately to the North of the Strathmere Beaches is Corson's Inlet State Park, also open to the public, also unguarded. The Upper Township Beach Patrol does not conduct regular surveillance over Whale Beach or the State Park Beach, but will respond to emergencies there as the need arises.

The beach at Beesley's Point, also known as Mad Beach, lies on the great Egg Harbor Bay near the mouth of the Tuckahoe River, between the Route 9 and Garden State Parkway Bridges which span the Bay. The swimming area is adjacent to a dock and the Upper Township Boat Ramp. Lifeguards are stationed there from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM seven days a week during the summer. To get there, take Route 9 and turn at the sign for the Tuckahoe Inn, then continue past the Inn along the same road until you reach the water. See Map below.
